On April, 17th, our class 7/1 and our class teacher Mrs. Bader went outside on our school yard to clean the area from rubbish. The city of Leipzig had a project called Leipziger Frühjahrsputz. Therefore, we were asked by Mrs. Bader to participate. The timing was perfect because our unit in our English book is about our environment.

At first, we were given some instructions and were provided with equipment such as trash pickers, gloves and some rubbish bags. Then, we were allowed to pair ourselves into small groups. Afterwards, a few students went to the school yard which is next to the street, while others went to the area which is connected to a primary school yard. We had sixty minutes to clean both areas. While cleaning up, we had a competition: the group which found the funniest item won money from Mrs. Bader to buy a snack for the whole class from a small supermarket. At the end, we were all given ice cream, each with different flavours.

In my opinion, it was a funny and great chance to clean our school yards. I would call that whole event a success. We learned that many people do not really care about our environment, they just throw their trash on the ground without a second thought.
